              About the Department:

The Department of Economics is as old as the college is. It was started as the only department, when the college was established in the academic year 1973-74 and got affiliation from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. There is a huge demand for B.A Economics at under graduate level at Yanam region. Later, when Pondicherry university, A Central university established in the year 1986, since then the college has been affiliated to it for its different courses.

• To provide a transformative education to the students to create leader and innovators and generate new knowledge to the society.

Mission:

• To provide education that shape the students through coursework and by providing and understanding of the needs of the society.
• To collaborate with other academic and Research institutions around, to strengthen education and Research.

           Departmental Achievements:

SPORTS: Students of Economics about many prizes in inter collegiate tournament 2018-19 held at Arignar Anna Govt. Arts science Karaikal, in the sports like weightlifting, power lifting, Running etc., B.Neelima students of economics achieved gold medal 1500 km running at 13th south zone athletes competition held at Guntur district of Andhar Pradesh. She completed her target in just 5. minutes04 seconds.

                 NSS: All the students of the department have joined in the College NSS units and actively participated in

                 special camps and other NSS activities.

                 NCC: Students of Economics Department are actively participated in NCC.

                 CULTURAL: Students of Economics are participated many cultural programmes like dancing and singing in

                  the college during college day celebrations Students of Economics also good in other competition like Essay

                  Writing, Quiz competition Drawing etc., they got many prizes in this event. 

       Departmental Activities:

• Teaching, Research, Examination and evaluation, Seminars, NSS Participation, NCC participation, Motivation higher studies, Career guidance, Awareness session other than teaching.
• Examination and evaluation: class tests and discussion on each topic followed by an overall model test in question pattern of university examination on each paper.
• Seminar: The department is seminar on different emerging issues and selective topic from the syllabus by inviting resource person from outside, faculty member or students of the department.
• Carrier Guidance: Special carrier guidance session are organised by the faculty members of the department.
• Awareness session:  various awareness session on topics like AIDS, Road safety and traffic control, consumer Rights, important of national and international days have been organised.

      Future Plans:

• The department is running in a systematic full-fledged manner having full and potential strength of faculties and students. It has specific future plans to cater to the changing needs of the students and establish a unique reputation for the development.
• To undertake departmental project works on different problems related to the locality.
• To propose to set up a well-equipped Computer Laboratory for the students.
• To propose for the development of a well-equipped audio-visual hall for conducting seminars/workshops/conferences.
• To propose to arrange special English improvement classes for B.A students.
• To propose to organise a National Level Conference on “Social Sector Development in India with special reference to Pondicherry”.
